ANKOS

ANKOS was established in 2000 with 12 member libraries and three database subscriptions. Faculty members at universities all over Turkey as well as the staff of some research institutions now have access to bibliographic and full-text databases in science, mathematics, social sciences, humanities, medicine, agriculture, business, education, informatics and computing, and engineering. ANKOS holds an Annual Meeting which all members and firms attend.

ANKOS takes its place alongside the world's library consortia as a member of the International Coalition of Library Consortia (ICOLC), the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC), the Southern European Libraries Link (SELL), and the international initiative COUNTER (Counting Online Usage of Networked Electronic Resources).

13. ICOLC Meeting was held at Istanbul Bilgi University by ANKOS

The 13th ICOLC (International Coalition of Library Consortiums) Meeting which was organized by the ANKOS Chair has been held in Istanbul Bilgi University Santral Campus between the dates of 18-21 September 2011. 94 members of 55 Consortiums from 33 Countries attended to the 13th ICOLC Meeting. The first day of the meeting started with the Reception at Santral Campus which was hosted by Istanbul Bilgi University’s Rector Prof. Dr. Remzi SANVER. On the second day, the official start of the meeting was done by the opening speeches of the ANKOS Chair Mr. Gültekin GÜRDAL and the Bilgi University’s Library Director Mr. Sami ÇUKADAR. On the first day sessions called “News from the Battlefield I&II” the consortia licensing, exiting big deals, e-books consortia topics... etc. have been discussed, the studies of the ANKOS Working Groups were presented, and the Open Access Studies of the SPARC  Europe & COAR were told. On the third day of the Meeting, the Journal Usage Statistics were told, and the speakers of the big publishers like Elsevier, Springer, and Wiley performed their presentations. The last day of the Meeting closed with the group studies, general assessment of the Meeting and the announcement of the 14th ICOLC Meeting would be held in Wien, Austria with the organization of Austrian Academic Consortium. The Meeting was evaluated as one of the most successful ICOLC Meeting which was ever done.
